Lots and lots of Updates

There have been a lot of updates on our wedding website. We finally came up with "Our Story". It is a bit long, but we hope it will entertain you a bit :)

We also added a "Calendar of Events", it is still tentative. As we have a better idea how many guests are attending, we might arrange a few things to do together as a group.

A few more things are added to "Ceremony", "Reception", "Accommodation", "Travel Arrangement", "About Dubrovnik", and "Things to Do in The Area".

And our wonderful wedding planner, Kike would like to offer her help if any of you need assistance related to your visit to Dubrovnik. You can contact her at kike@doyouwed.me

Some Tips for your visit to Dubrovnik

I found the information from our wedding planner's site:(http://www.doyouwed.me/wedding_dubrovnik_tips.html)

Drink Dubrovnik water - it is extraordinary, don't buy bottled one.
Eat mussels, they are so fresh and tasty.
Admire great views from Srđ.
Eat oysters (brought from Peljesac).
Visit Lokrum. Drink Plavac.
Take Jadrolinija boat and visit at least one of Elafiti Island.
Take a bath at St. Jakov beach.
Taste an ice cream at "Dolcevita".
Walk the city walls.
Take a night bath at Banje beach.
Drink more wine on Peljesac, visit cellars there.
Check out Dubrovnik's rooftops while walking the city walls.
Visit Lovrijenac.

Where to eat?

Casual meals are available in mnay restaurants, these are two that I would recommend:

Peskarija: http://www.mea-culpa.hr/index.php?restaurant=restaurants_seaview&dubrovnik=en
(this is sea food, right next to it there is a meat restaurant of the same style)

Kamenice: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g295371-d1101077-Reviews-Kamenice-Dubrovnik.html

You can have a simple lunch there at about 10-15 EUR. If you like the sea food mussels are MUST. Fresh oysters are recommended for particular sea food lovers.

Accommodation Ideas

I have recently found another 3 sources for accommodations:

1. http://www.dubrovnik-area.com/Eng/
For this one, you should search for Dubrovnik-Old Town, or just enter Dubrovnik and make sure the distance to old-town is walkable by your standard :).

2. http://www.dubrovnik-apartments.com/links.htm
For this one, you should look into the listing under "Center Area-Old town, Ploce, St Jakov, Pile

3. http://www.freshsheetshostel.com/index.html
This is a hostel the reviews are pretty good, the price is about 28 euro per person per night. However, every dorm is shared by four 4 people. I personally think it make more sense to just get a few people together and share an apartment which would cost about the same price, but you don't need to share with absolute strangers.

A few things to note:
- there are min. of 3-night stay for most apartments
- when comparing price make sure you know if the price is tax included (since tax is 23%!!!!)
- some places do NOT accept credit card, be sure you are aware of that.

Accommodation Ideas

We've been looking at a few places for accommodation ideas - one that was recommended by our wedding planner is here. Take a look and give us an idea of what you think - don't contact them yet though as we're going to try and pull a group of people together and see if we can get a better rate.

Travel Agent

One of my co-worker who recently traveled to Dubrovnik (2009) gave me the contact info for another travel agent. They offered a better deal.

Sena Travel
senatravel@telus.net
604- 254-4433
2152 East Hastings, Vancouver

ask for Sena Dolenjski
(referred by Alice Peng)

I have talked to her already, she seems very nice and she is actually from Croatia and knows the area very well.

We already got our tickets from her, our itinerary is as follows
1) Vancouver to Dubrovnik
2) Split to Rome
3) Milan to Vancouver
The total cost is 1550.96 with all taxes included. But the expensive part is actually from split to rome, since it's a one way ticket ($300).
